Common questions
Probiotics and gut health
Updated: October 25, 2026
Gut issues often come from food:
- Bloating from protein is usually lactose or drinking too fast — switch to isolate, mix with water, sip slowly; sweeteners (sorbitol, xylitol) can also cause it.
- Probiotics help during and after antibiotics and with some gut problems; effects depend on the strain, use the label dose.
- Fibre (25–35 g a day: vegetables, legumes, oats, psyllium) and water fight constipation.
- Kefir and yoghurt are natural probiotics.
Pain, blood or lasting diarrhoea — see a gastroenterologist.
